Name Day

Name Day

In commemoration of the Feast of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide and our church’s first “name day,” Fr. Abraham held a special evening prayer service on Saturday, April 23 in the sanctuary. “Last year our Holy Martyrs were officially recognized as saints. Today, we ask for the intercession of the Holy Martyrs to pray for us and to help us get rid of our sins.” Following the moving prayer service, a special fellowship table highlighting dishes from Diasporan countries was enjoyed by over 100 parishioners and friends in Kalustyan Hall. “We are the Armenian Diaspora,” said Dr. Lynn Cetin, Chair of Holy Martyrs’ Genocide Commemoration Committee and the evening’s program. “Tonight we have brought together dishes from our ancestral homelands to share with one another. Tonight we share in the beauty of being Armenian as we commemorate the lives of our sainted martyrs. We are here because of them and because of them, our legacy as Armenians lives on.” A short presentation on Holy Martyrs’ Year of the Pomegranate, a slide presentation of Armenian Churches in the Diaspora and a video of ancient Armenian Churches followed. Pianist, Ashot Soghomonyan, played a potpourri of international selections as the faithful enjoyed the assortment of dishes from around the world. The program closed with the recitation of the song lyrics, “Millions of Lives,” followed by the screening of the video clip. The first celebration of our "name day" was a tremendous success thanks to all who attended and contributed to the magnificent fellowship table. Food and music always bring Armenians together. God bless our sainted martyrs. May their legacy live on....
